Thorne, Oswald John, 471, Constable, Sergeant, Inspector

Inspector 471 Oswald John Thorne was born in 1922 and died in 1999. He served for 28 years 4 months in the Hertfordshire Constabulary between 1st November 1948 and the 28th February 1977 with the remainder of his 30 year pensionable service being made up by his Military service. Having retired he wrote an account of his life from growing up near Aylesbury, moving to Garston, joining the Army and service in the Second World War then joining Hertfordshire Constabulary and finally his life after the Police. With the kind permission of his daughter, Noreen Clark, this is his story focusing on his Police Service. His early life and Military Service have been abridged.
