In the photograph, which was taken in 1924 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is a Probationer Class who had as their Instructors Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp and Constable 41 William Stanley Flower.

General Order 113 of the 14th July 1924 announced that six Recruit Constables having been brought on to the Roster, would be transferred from Headquarters to Divisions for duty. Those pictured are:

Back Row left to right:

1.    PC 194 John Edward Neville was born on the 17th November 1901 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 9th December 1956. He was first posted to E Division at Hitchin. He died on the 5th July 1971.

2.    PC 236 Jesse William Parsons was born on the 11th April 1901 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 27th August 1951. He was first posted to A Division at Bishops Stortford. He died on the 15th January 1994.

3.    PC 87 George Albert Jones was born on the 29th May 1901 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 7th January 1959. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died in 1983. Information from his son Ray Jones – “After training he married in1927 and I was born in 1934 when he was at Harpenden. Other divisions he served in were ’39 to ’45 at Bishops Stortford, ’45 to 49 at Watford, ’49 at Hatfield until retirement in about ’61 having served approx 37 years. He died at St. Ives in Cambs age 85.”

4.    PC 31 George William Jesse Hall was born on the 19th November 1901 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 24th February 1949. He was first posted to B Division at Hertford. He died on the 19th February 1977.

5.    PC 240 Reginald Hugh Frederick Turner was born on the 30th June 1899 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 24th August 1954. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died in 1978.

Front row left to right:

1.    PC 119 Leonard William Moles was born on the 15th September 1899 and served between the 25th February 1924 and the 28th February 1951. He was first posted to B Division at Welwyn Garden City. He died on the 13th August 1983.

2.    Instructor Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp.

3.    Instructor Constable 41 William Stanley Flower.
