Headquarters Hatfield Probationers March 1927

In the photograph, which was taken in 1927 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is the 38^th Probationer Class who had as their Instructors Inspector George Thomas Sharp and Sergeant 41 William Stanley Flower.

No General Orders have survived for this period and of the nine new recruits it has only been possible to identify seven of them. Of these only PC Sale’s pension record has survived. His record is endorsed that he was in the 38^th Class. Those pictured are:

1. PC 86 Ernest William Izzard was born on the 26^th September 1907 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 1^st April 1945. He died in 1992.
2. PC 99 Ronald Frederick Matravers was born on the 15^th April 1907 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 3^rd July 1952. He died on the 7^th November 1974.
3. PC 21 Edwin George Bailey served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 21^st December 1927.
4. PC 74 Herbert George Harding was born in 1906 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 2^nd August 1930. He died in 1930.
5. PC 113 Jack Pearman was born on the 3^rd April 1904 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 19^th September 1956. He died on the 6^th January 1980.
6. PC 185 William George Sales was born on the 1^st April 1904 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 14^th October 1952. He died on the 6^th January 1987.

4. PC 25 Frederick George Abbott Goddard was born on the 26^th December 1903 and served between the 3^rd March 1927 and the 1^st April 1945. He died in 1983.
