Promotion for Hatfield Police Chief.

Chief Superintendent Neil Gailbraith , of the Hertfordshire Police Headquarters at Hatfield , has been appointed Assistant Chief Constable of Monmouthshire .

Mr Gailbraith , who is 39 and a native of Kilmarnock , joined the Lancashire Police as a Constable in 1931.

After serving in the Wigan, Manchester and Rochdale Divisions , he was appointed to the organisation department at Lancashire Constabulary headquarters in 1936 . He was promoted to Sergeant in 1938 . Four years later he was appointed Inspector in charge of the War Personnel Department of the War Branch .

He was selected as Chief Clerk of the Herts Police in 1936 from over 140 applicants . He begins his new duties at Abergavenny on May 1 .

He is succeeded at Hatfield by Supt Gott , of St Albans , who won the George Medal during the last war .
