Headquarters Hatfield Probationers September 1921

In the photograph, which was  taken in 1921 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is the 24^th Probationer Class who had as their Instructors Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp and Constable 268 Arthur James Saunders.

General Order 11 of the 17^th January 1922 announced that seven Recruit Constables having been brought on to the Roster, would be transferred from Headquarters to Divisions for duty. Those pictured are:

Back Row left to right:

1. PC 354 George Henry Pestell served between 1921 and 1923. He was first posted to C Division at Rickmansworth.
2. PC 134 Percy George Payne served between 1921 and 1925. He was first posted to A Division at Bishops Stortford.
3. PC 322 Ernest Miles was born on the 3^rd December 1896 and served between the 2^nd August 1921 and the 12^th December 1946. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 18^th October 1966. (He also appears in the photograph of Class 23).
4. PC 58 Thomas Alexander Bailiff was born on the 29^th April 1894 and served between 1921 and the 7^th February 1925. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died in 1976.
5. PC 200 Arthur Bangs served between 1921 and the 23^rd May 1923. He was first posted to E Division at Hitchin.

1. PC 352 James Albert Farnsworth was born on the 10^th October 1896 and served between the 22^nd September 1921 and the 12^th October 1947. He was first posted to B Division at Hertford. He died in1976.
2. Instructor Constable 268 Arthur James Saunders.
3. Instructor Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp.
4. PC 350 Harold Withecombe Warren was born on the 18^th September 1900 and served between the 22^nd September 1921 and the 3^rd August 1944. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 31^st October 1966.
