In the photograph, which was  taken in 1921 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is the 24th Probationer Class who had as their Instructors Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp and Constable 268 Arthur James Saunders.

General Order 11 of the 17th January 1922 announced that seven Recruit Constables having been brought on to the Roster, would be transferred from Headquarters to Divisions for duty. Those pictured are:

Back Row left to right:

  1. PC 354 George Henry Pestell served between 1921 and 1923. He was first posted to C Division at Rickmansworth.
  2. PC 134 Percy George Payne served between 1921 and 1925. He was first posted to A Division at Bishops Stortford.
  3. PC 322 Ernest Miles was born on the 3rd December 1896 and served between the 2nd August 1921 and the 12th December 1946. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 18th October 1966. (He also appears in the photograph of Class 23).
  4. PC 58 Thomas Alexander Bailiff was born on the 29th April 1894 and served between 1921 and the 7th February 1925. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died in 1976.
  5. PC 200 Arthur Bangs served between 1921 and the 23rd May 1923. He was first posted to E Division at Hitchin.

Front Row left to right:

  1. PC 352 James Albert Farnsworth was born on the 10th October 1896 and served between the 22nd September 1921 and the 12th October 1947. He was first posted to B Division at Hertford. He died in1976.
  2. Instructor Constable 268 Arthur James Saunders.
  3. Instructor Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp.
  4. PC 350 Harold Withecombe Warren was born on the 18th September 1900 and served between the 22nd September 1921 and the 3rd August 1944. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 31st October 1966.
