Headquarters Hatfield Probationers June 1919

In the photograph, which was  taken in 1919 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is the 15^th Probationer Class who had as their Instructors Acting Sergeant Ethelbert Maskell and Constable 280 George Thomas Sharp.

General Order 162 of the 17^th July 1919 announced that fifteen Recruit Constables having been brought on to the Roster, would be transferred from Headquarters to Divisions for duty. Those pictured are:

Back Row left to right:

1. PC 169 William Edward Nottage was born on the 27^th January 1892 and served between the 29^th April 1919 and the 2^nd May 1945. He was first posted to F Division at Hertford. He died on the 3^rd January 1968.
2. PC 92 Frederick Walter Currell was born on the 21^st September 1898 and served between the 15^th May 1919 and the 5^th March 1947. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 28^th October 1977.
3. PC 50 Thomas Copeman was born on the 31^st August 1894 and served between the 15^th May 1919 and the 20^th June 1945. He was first posted to A Division at Ware. He died on the 22^nd November 1968.
4. PC 157 Arthur Mays was born on the 6^th March 1893 and served between the 20^th June 1919 and the 20^th June 1945. He was first posted to B Division at Bishops Stortford. He died on the 26^th October 1961.

1. PC 162 Joshua Medcalf was born on the 9^th January 1898 and served between the 15^th May 1919 and the 31^st December 1945. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 1^st September 1969.
2. PC 172 Stanley Ernest Wood was born on the 30^th January 1893 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and 31^st May 1949. He was first posted to A Division at Ware. He died on the 2^nd June 1969.
3. PC 62 Stanley Jack Cross was born on the 9^th April 1900 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and the 8^th April 1946. He was first posted to G Division at Hatfield. He died on the 16^th December 1985.
4. PC 147 John Jackson was born on the 8^th April 1898 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and the 18^th October 1944. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 27^th March 1972.
5. PC 158 James Lee was born on the 30^th December 1891 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and the 27^th April 1944. He was first posted to F Division at Hertford. He died on the 1^st January 1966.
6. PC 43 Walter Barker was born on the 18^th September 1893 and served between 19^th May 1919 and the 20^th June 1945. He was first posted to G Division at Harpenden. He died on the 22^nd May 1969.
7. PC 175 Herbert James Woolmore was born on the 6^th April 1898 and served until the 21st February 1945. He was first posted to E Division at Hitchin. He died on the 15^th June 1976.
8. PC 168 Tom Martin was born on the 1^st April 1893 and served between the 10^th May 1919 and the 10^th May 1944. He was first posted to G Division at Harpenden. He died in 1971.
9. PC 47 Frank Catlin was born on the 19^th May 1893 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and the 27^th April 1949. He was first posted to E Division at Hitchin. He died on the 20^th July 1951.

1. PC 171 Ismael Arthur Poll was born on the 29^th March 1895 and served between the 28^th April 1919 and 31^st December 1945. He was first posted to A Division at Hoddesdon. He died on the 6^th August 1988.
2. Instructor Acting Sergeant 161 Ethelbert Maskell.
3. Instructor Constable 280 George Thomas Sharp.
4. PC 33 Percy Alfred Anderson served between the 28^th April 1919 and 1922. He was first posted to R Division at Headquarters.
