  • I joined Sussex Drug Squad in 1976 , and Peter Sharpe was my Detective Inspector one of the loveliest men you could meet/work for. He was also one of the best Cricketers in the Force. Sorry that his life was so cut short but I ended up being one of the longest serving Detectives on the Drug Squad in the Country. RIP Sir

  • I was staff officer to Peter Sharpe when he was first appointed CC Herts, after I had been with CC Bill Skitt. An excellent man to work for and with. He made me laugh often with some of the things he said about life being a CC.
Very sad when we lost him.

  • I had the privilege of being Peter Sharpe’s Staff Officer for three years. Large in stature and even larger in personality this natural leader and ‘coppers copper’ was known and liked force wide. A first class cricketer who also knew his way round a golf course was a fervent Manchester United FC supporter. An excellent Chief Constable and human being who was taken from this world too early.

  • Peter Sharpe was a wonderful man to work for. He was always interested in the officers and staff. When one was in trouble he cared and looked to see how mistakes could be rectified. He recognised good work and sought out individuals he could reward. How sad that he did not live long enough to enjoy his own retirement.

  • No disrespect to the other Chief Constables who I have served under, but Peter Sharpe was the best. A complete gentleman, sadly taken from us far too early.
    RIP sir
