Theft of bicycle lamps and pumps

Hertfordshire Mercury, 25th September 1915

Transcript

For some time past numerous complaints have been made to the police with regard to the theft of bicycle lamps and pumps off bicycles placed in a shed adjoining the Picturedrome while the owners were at the pictures.  As a result of observation by P.C. Jones, Albert Edward Allbone, Ernest Page, and William Bottomley, schoolboys, all of Arlesey, were charged at Hitchin Petty Sessions on Monday with stealing a watch, cycle pump, acetylene lamp, and an electric lamp on various dates since August 28.  They pleaded guilty.  The property, together with several other lamps and pumps not yet identified, was all recovered.  After hearing the evidence of Sergt. Steel and P.c. Jones, the Bench convicted, and placed the boys on probation for twelve months.
