Shoplifting at St Albans

At the St Albans Division of the Herts. Quarter Sessions on Tuesday, Annie Elizabeth Coles (32), polisher, belonging to Birmingham, pleaded guilty to stealing a pair of knickers from the counter of William Joseph Butcher, pawnbroker, St Albans, on June 17.

Mr Tindall Atkinson said the offence was committed between 10 a.m. and 12, and when confronted by P.C. Ward, who was in plain clothes, and who followed her into a public-house, she admitted having stolen the garment.

The prisoner was sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour.
