At Cheshunt Petty Sessions, Harold Miller (14), Edward Swann (17), Stanley Saward (15), Cecil Bowers (16), Frederick Harries (16) and Charles Aldridge (13), all of Waltham Cross, were all summoned for damaging grass to the value of £1, the property of William James Poole and George Poole, farmers of Albury Farm.
A Police Sergeant said that he found the lads rolling and lying about in the grass. Mr G. Poole said that the damage was estimated at £1, and that he was anxious that this sort of thing should be stopped.
The Clerk reminded the lads that if they had been charged under the Defence of the Realm Act with damaging crops they might have been sentenced to prison for six months. A fine of 5 shillings was imposed in each case.
