Dustbin stolen at Ware

Thomas William Wilds, 39 Kibes Lane , Ware, was charged with stealing a dustbin at Ware on January 10th . Miss Laura West, East Street,  Ware, gave evidence of missing the dustbin on that date.

P.C. Hill said that as a result of his enquiries he saw the defendant’s mother on January 15, and she produced the dustbin. Later witness saw defendant, who said that on the Saturday in question he had had a few drinks  and on his way home after closing time, he saw the dustbin on the path, picked it up and took it home. He did not know what made him do it .

Defendant pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily, said that at the time of the offence he was under the influence of drink, and he was sorry it had happened. Inspector Rolls said that previously defendant had borne a good character, and nothing was known against him .

Defendant, who said he was a single man and had a widowed mother, was fined 10 shillings, the Bench allowing a week for  payment .
