Baldock police court - dealer's theft

Transcript

Monty Crispin Gray , 80 , milkman and dealer , Warren Cottage , Cottered , pleaded guilty to stealing five fowls at Luffenhall , during the night of  March 6-7 . George Gray , Manor Farm, Luffenhall said defendant was his brother . There were some fowls on his ( witness’ ) farm , belonging to his wife . On Friday, March 6 , everything was all right at 6 p.m. , and he locked the fowl-houses . Mrs Nellie Gray , wife of the previous witness , said on March 7 , when she went to let the fowls out she found the staple of one house drawn and lying on the ground with the lock beside it .

P.s. Dean gave evidence of finding the fowls in defendant’s possession at Cottered , one of which was being plucked by defendant’s wife .

At first defendant said he bought them at Buntingford Market , but then admitted stealing the fowls the previous night .

Fined £2 .
