At Cheshunt Petty Sessions John Barnby (13) and Harold Warner (11), of Stepney, Owen Marshall (10), of Enfield, and Gregory Gascoyne (9), of Hoddesdon, were charged with damaging a door on July 31 at Hoddesdon.  PC Coomes said he saw the four lads in the gravel pits at Hoddesdon.  Noticing a door had been taken down he questioned the boys, who said they pulled the door down.  Albert Brazier, of Rye Park, said the cost of replacing the door would be 5 shillings.  Barnby and Marshall said it was really the fault of Gascoyne, who lent them tools with which to pull the door down.  Supt Handley said many complaints had been received of damage done by boys in the gravel pits.  The defendants were fined 2s. 6d. each, the Chairman expressing the hope that the parents would attend to the personal castigation of the boys.
