Stealing turnip tops - Hertford county sessions

Hertfordshire Mercury, 4th May 1907

Transcript

Mrs Tebboath, of Bircherly Street, Hertford, was charged with stealing turnip-tops, value 2 shillings, the property of Mr John Brown, on April 18th.

Defendant said she took them not thinking she was doing any harm.  Complainant, who lives at Marden Farm, said it was very unpleasant to him to have to summon the woman. It was not the value of the things, but this kind of thing was going on repeatedly and he had often complained to the police of people taking his crops. He wished the defendant to be treated leniently.

The Bench sentenced her to one day’s imprisonment, and she was discharged on the rising of the Court.
