Stealing a bicycle didn't get them very far !

Hertfordshire Mercury, 20th April 1918

Transcript

At a Cheshunt and Waltham Cross Juvenile Court, Ernest Lee (15) and Edward Watson (15), of Pleasant Place, Wormley, were charged with stealing a bicycle, value £3, the property of Lewis Pitman, a farm hand of Game Farm, Roydon.

Pitman said that, on 11th April, he had cycled to Hoddesdon Cinema and had left his machine in a shed at the rear of the picture palace.  After the programme, he went for his machine but it was missing.

Inspector Moles described how he had found the two lads unfixing the mudguard from the machine on Sunday last at Wormley.

The boys were each bound over for a year.
