Transcript

Bertha Littlewood, a midde-aged woman of no fixed abode, was sentenced to nine months’ hard labour, on three charges of theft, at the police court on Tuesday. She was taken in out of kindness by Miss Addcock of Marlborough Road, at the beginning of last year and stole from the house a gilt jug and a pair of sugar tongs.

From the residence of Mrs Reichardt, Kingsfield Road, she absconded with a pair of shoes and a sheet, while she obtained from Mr J.B. Field, a draper, of Queen’s Road, blouses valued at £5.6s.1d. on approbation, which she afterwards sold.

The woman was described by Supt.Wood as ”a thoroughly bad lot”
