County crime report shows rise in shopbreaking offences

The crime return for the quarter ended July 31 , presented to Hertfordshire County Council yesterday ( Thursday ) , showed that the number of persons apprehended and summoned for all offences was 1,566 , of whom 47 were committed for trial ; 1,394 summarily convicted ; 110 discharged ; and 15 otherwise disposed of . The number apprehended and summoned was an increase of 275 over that for the similar quarter of last year .

Biggest increases were for breaking into shops , stores , etc , from 115 to 154 , and other simple larcenies from 289 to 528 . Larceny of cycles was slightly down from 138 to 134 , while house-breaking was slightly up from 63 to 66 .
