Arthur Humphrey, 20, labourer, pleaded guilty to breaking open a gas meter and stealing 5 shillings therefrom, at Watford, on January 24th.
Mr Murphy appeared for the prosecution.
It appeared that the prisoner was a deserter from the Royal Fusiliers, and P.S. Dolley said that for some seven or eight years he had been an associate of thieves and low characters. The offence was committed whilst on furlough.
