Stealing turnip tops - petty sessions

Transcript

Eliza Goodey, of Watton Road, and Maria Goodey, of Crib Street, Ware were charged with stealing turnip tops, value 6d., on April 6th.

Defendants pleaded guilty.

P.C. Gillett stated that he saw the two defendants in a field adjoining Watton Road picking turnip tops. He went after them and they gave up the tops. Supt Duke said it was a systematic kind of thing at this time of year, and he had received numerous complaints.

Defendants were each fined 5 shillings including costs.

Mr Hanbury did not adjudicate in this case.
