Police dog searches for intruders
Hertfordshire Mercury, 27th July 1951
Hertford police used an Alsatian dog to search the grounds of Hertfordshire Agricultural Executive Committee offices at Brickendonbury after the night watchman , Mr William Fletcher , of 116 Duncombe Road , Bengeo , had disturbed two intruders in the building last Thursday night .
Entry had been obtained through a French window and cupboards and drawers were ransacked.
Mr Fletcher told the Mercury : ” I saw only one man but believe there were two . I was in the kitchen at the time and heard footsteps in the passage outside . I opened a serving hatch and saw a man with a stick and gave chase down the corridor , but by the time I got to the door they had gone . “
