At Hitchin Petty Sessions on Tuesday Reuben Winch, a labourer, of Hitchin Hill, was fined 5 shillings for being drunk and disorderly and £1 for assaulting P.C. Young in the execution of his duty on August 28. The prisoner denied both charges, and made allegations against the police of striking and kicking him, but these were not substantiated. Inspector Bowyer stating that neither when charged nor the following day, when he was admitted to bail, did the prisoner allege any mis-usage.
