Scene at the Salvation Army barracks

Hertfordshire Mercury, 3rd November 1906

Transcript

After the public-houses closed on Saturday night, the Salvation Army marched out, as they stated, to gather in the drunkards. On their return to the barracks some unruly scenes occurred . A gang of young men took possession of the platform, across which one turned Cart Wheels, yelled, smashed the drum, threw beer bottles and stones through the windows, and twice turned off the gas. The proceedings broke up with much disorder at midnight.
