Drunkenness

At Hertford Borough Sessions on Thursday Edward Classens (35), of 6 Spencer Street, a Belgian refugee, did not appear to answer a summons for being found drunk in Railway Street, at 10 45 p.m., on September 27.  PC Starkey stated that he found the defendant lying in the road helplessly drunk, and locked him up for the night.  Inspector Ebling said he bailed the man out the next morning, and he had since left the neighbourhood.  The defendant had been working on the new railway.  A fine of 5 shillings was inflicted.

Harry Raw (24), labourer, of Green Street, was fined 10 shillings for being drunk and disorderly in Railway Street at midday on September 21.  This was his third conviction for drunkenness within a year.

Annie Spinks (40), married woman, of Green Street, was fined 15 shillings for a similar offence on September 24.
