At Much Hadham Petty Sessions Aaron White (52), labourer, of Little Hadham, was charged with keeping a dog without having taken out a licence.  PC Gooch said that on the 28th ult. he was on duty at the Ash, Little Hadham, and saw a long-legged lurcher dog chained up in a stable on unoccupied premises, belonging to Mr Charles Baker.  The defendant admitted the dog belonged to him, and said he had no licence but was going to get one.  The witness had seen the same dog on other premises at the Ash on April 7, and warned the defendant, who had had it in his possession for a year.  The witness had known the dog for the last two years.  The defendant said: ‘I had the dog given to me at the end of last year, and thought I could get rid of it.  I did so the day before yesterday, and it has gone to Woodford, in Essex’.  A fine of 5s. was imposed.
