"What a (dog's) life"

Miss Marjory Hine , Woodfield, The Ridgeway, Cuffley, was summoned for keeping a dog without a licence , and further with allowing it to stray on the highway without a collar.

P.c. Gilliam proved the case, and said that when he saw defendant she said the dog must have lost its collar in the woods . She admitted not having a licence for the dog . When told she would be reported she said ” What a life.”

Defendant sent a letter to the Court , and enclosed a cheque for 10 shillings.

She was fined 5 shillings on each summons.
