On May 22nd 1915, a directive was received from Captain Archer, 2/2 London Division, that cases had been reported of soldiers driving recklessly, galloping their horses up the hill, putting the public at great risk of injury. The Captain asked for all the P.C.s. on point duty near The George Hotel to stop and apprehend any army soldiers found riding their horses recklessly in the area. The Captain asked that the offending soldiers’ names should be sent to him, so he could take appropriate action. He gave similar instructions to the local Garrison Military Police.
All officers on point duty and patrol in Bishop’s Stortford were ordered to pay particular attention to this.
