Following a successful run with the earlier version of the Rover V8 (codenamed the P6 model) , the company brought out a new model in 1976, codenamed the SD1. This car still retained the 3500cc V8 engine, which originated from an American Buick engine, but had a completely redesign body. It was a bulkier car than the previous model and had a large boot. It was fine for motorway patrolling but sadly lacked a bit on the reliability side.
