Ford Prison Van - SHO679P

Richard Liversidge

Hertfordshire Police Historical Society

A Constabulary prison van in service around 1975 seen here at Police Headquarters with the radio mast and police vehicle workshops in the background.

The van, bearing the force crest, was used to convey remand prisoners from Hertfordshire courts to prisons in and around London. Described by officers as uncomfortably hot inside in warm weather. One officer would be locked in the back of the van with up to six uncuffed prisoners with a civilian driver up front.
