Violent female tramp - Buntingford

Hertfordshire Mercury, 27th October 1906

Transcript

On Friday, Annie Harris, a tramp over sixty years of age, was noticed by the Master of the Union lying in the garden just within the gate. She struck at the Master and a Constable subsequently prevailed upon her to enter the women’s ward. Here she became very violent, threatened to smash the windows, and absolutely refused a bath. She called herself the ”Oxford Bully” and was so disorderly that she was taken to the police station and locked up. The next day she was taken before F.C. Porter, at an Occasional Court, and in consideration of her age and on her promise to leave the town she was sentenced to only one day’s imprisonment and consequently immediately released.
