Assaulting a child

Hertfordshire Mercury, 30th October 1915

Transcript

At Ware Petty Sessions on Tuesday, Mrs Edward Adams, of 168 Musley Hill, Ware, was summoned for assaulting Edith Doris Minnie Lawrence, aged 13.  She pleaded not guilty.  The girl said she lived at 171 Musley Hill, and on October 22 about 1.45 p.m., she was going to school, when the defendant came out of her house.  The witness had her little brother with her, and he wanted to go the other way.  The witness would not let him, and she took him up and carried him.  She told him he was not to be afraid of Mrs Adams, and the defendant then hit the witness under the chin with her fist.

In cross-examination, the witness denied that she called after the defendant.  Beatrice Smith, of 146 Musley Hill, gave corroborative evidence to the assault.

A fine of 6 shillings was imposed.
