At Ware Petty Sessions on Tuesday Reginald Mckannah, 12 and Ernest Smith, 10, of Stanstead Abbotts, and Francis O’Neal, 12 ,of St Margarets, were charged with assaulting Bertha McDonald, aged 10, on May 28th. Mr Alfred Baker defended. The girl stated that on the day in question she was walking out near Easneye Park when the three defendants took hold of her, pulled her through a hedge into a field, and assaulted her. Dr Stewart spoke of the injuries the child received, and the Bench ordered the elder boys to receive six strokes with the birch and the younger one three.
