Special Constables as enumerators

Hertfordshire Mercury, 7th August 1915

Transcript

In the parish of Cheshunt some of the Special Constabulary, on an order from the staff headquarters, New Scotland Yard, are undertaking the role of enumerators in connection with the National Registration next week.  The Urban District Council is the local registration authority, and for the purposes of the registration the parish has been divided into 24 districts, and the enumerators have, as far as possible, been appointed to the charge of districts in which they reside, or, at any rate, are familiar with.

The work of the enumerators is by no means a light one.  Commencing next Monday each house in the parish will be visited and inquiries made as to the number of persons between the ages of 15-65, male and female, who it is expected will be in the house on the night of Sunday, August 15.  When the number has been ascertained the enumerator will leave the required forms.  The work of collecting the forms will commence on Monday, August 16 and it is incumbent upon the enumerators that all of the forms must be returned to the local registration authority by Saturday, August 21, and if possible before then.
