Bakers as Special Constables

Hertfordshire Mercury, 3rd July 1915

Transcript

At a special sitting of the Ware Petty Sessional Court on Friday evening, with Messrs A.G. Sandeman and A.H. Rogers present, several of the master bakers of the town were sworn in as Special Constables, this being the outcome of instructions received as to the food supply in case of an emergency arising, and when fugitives might be travelling across the country.  The bakers would remain at their shops and have their ordinary staffs augmented.  Mr Sandeman thanked those who had responded to the request, and trusted that they would have no need of their services.
