‘Motorist appeared asleep’ – Police

Two police officers who saw a stationery car in the middle of Hollybush Lane , Welwyn Garden City , at  2 a.m. on January 26 looked into the car and saw the driver at the wheel , apparently asleep.

This was stated at Welwyn Sessions on Friday , when the driver , Douglas Robertson , 36-year-old engineer, of Astwick Farm , Hatfield , was fined £2 for causing the car to be left in a dangerous position .

Constable Askew said the car was opposite the junction with Hunters Way.

Told of the position  the car was in , Robertson replied, ” Oh, all right “

Sergt. Day said he asked Robertson why the car was in the middle of the road and Robertson replied ” I am not in the main road.”

A letter was handed to the Magistrates to read.
