In the photograph, which is believed to have been taken in early 1921 at Police Headquarters at Hatfield, is a Probationer Class who had as their Instructor Sergeant 280 George Thomas Sharp. To his left is the Deputy Chief Constable Superintendent George Thomas Knight.
General Order 60 of the 12th April 1921 announced that six Recruit Constables, (Barlow, Roach, Harris, Milton, Fawcett and Green), and General Order 80 of the 18th May 1921 announced a further three Recruit Constables, (Prentice, Mantle and Bygrave), all having been brought on to the Roster, would be transferred from Headquarters to Divisions for duty. 1. PC 338 Albert Prentice was born on the 16th October 1899 and served between the 22nd November 1920 and the 31st December 1945. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 15th January 1982.
2. PC 149 George Frank Barlow was born on the 18th April 1894 and served between the 22nd November 1920 and the 23rd January 1946. He was first posted to A Division at Ware. He died in 1987.
3. PC 345 Albert Edward Roach was born on the 26th June 1896 and served between the 22nd November 1920 and the 23rd January 1926. He was first posted to C Division at Rickmansworth. He died in 1985.
4. PC 340 John Henry Harris was born on the 18th December 1894 and served between the 29th November 1920 and the 16th September 1951. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died on the 19th January 1982.
5. PC 91 Leonard Titmuss was born on the 2nd December 1902 and served between the 9th December 1920 and the 3rd December 1947. He does not appear in a General Order for his first posting as prior to becoming a Constable he had already been employed by the Constabulary as a civilian clerk at Hatfield Headquarters for two years. He was permitted to join as a Constable and after his Probationary training he resumed his role at Headquarters. He died on the 30th October 1986.
6. PC 342 George Milton was born on the 27th June 1893 and served between the 29th November 1920 and the 31st March 1936. He was first posted to B Division at Sawbridgeworth.
7. PC 339 Victor Edwin Fawcett was born on the 6th July 1897 and served between the 22nd November 1920 and the 19th June 1921. He was first posted to E Division at Stevenage. He died on the 25th January 1980.
8. PC 315 Frederick Allan Mantle was born in 1888 and served originally between an unknown date prior to the outbreak of WW1 and when he was recalled to the colours as an Army Reservist on the 4th August 1914. General Order 21 of 1918, which has not survived, probably stated that the Police Surgeon had found him to be not fit enough to re-join the Police. Later General Order 210 of 21st December 1920 announced his re-appointment to the Police as PC 346 from the 16th December 1920, he was posted to B Division at Bishops Stortford. He resigned his Appointment on 2nd August 1921. He died in 1934.

1. PC 343 Charles Henry (or Harry) Green was born on the 8th August 1898 and served between the 2nd November 1920 and the 31st December 1945. He was first posted to D Division at Great Berkhamsted.

4. PC 344 Arthur Reginald Bygrave was born on the 8th February 1896 and served between the 7th December 1920 and the 22nd November 1922. He was first posted to C Division at Watford. He died in 1961.
