Joseph Merriden, a labouring man, was convicted of manslaughter, for killing Joseph Rhodes in a boxing match.

By the evidence it appeared that the prisoner wished to decline fighting, but that the deceased provoked it.  They adjourned to Rickmansworth Park, and fought.  After a contest of an hour and a half, the deceased fell, and became senseless; he died in a few hours.

The prisoner was sentenced to 7 days imprisonment.
