Having served as Private 5706 in the Grenadier Guards it is believed that he joined the Hertford County Constabulary in mid 1899 and was stationed at Hitchin. Constable Goodson was recalled to the Colours on 9th October 1899 and was Killed in Action at Belmont, South Africa on the 23rd November 1899.

Read more George Halsey left school at 15 and joined the Merchant Navy sailing the world. In 1936 at the age of 22 he joined Hertfordshire Constabulary. In May 1943 he joined the Royal Naval Reserve and served on Minesweepers at a Lieutenant. In December 1945 he re-joined the Police. He was commended several times retiring in 1966 as a Detective Inspector after 30 years service.
