The Great War
This category contains the Life Stories of those individual Hertfordshire Police Officers who were serving in the Hertford County Constabulary prior to the outbreak of the war or who joined the Constabulary during the war and were either reservists who were recalled to the colours or who volunteered for military service.
They were identified from a number of sources, principally the archives of the Hertfordshire Police Historical Society and HALS (Hertfordshire Archive and Local Studies). Additional information was sourced from Ancestry.co.uk, FindMyPast.co.uk, Forces-War-Records.co.uk, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission cwgc.org, and the General Record Office gro.gov.uk.
