Too much force by the force !

Hertfordshire Mercury, 27th May 1916

Fanny Moss of Pratt’s Yard, Stevenage, a young widow who had lost her husband in the war, was fined 5 shillings under the Lighting Order, at Stevenage Sessions.  It was stated that PC Harrowell had woken the defendant at 11:40pm by tapping the window with a clothes prop but, in his tapping, the panes of glass in the window had fallen out.

The defendant was said to have used impolite language to the Constable !
