He joined Hertfordshire Constabulary in 1937 and following the outbreak of WW2 enlisted in the Durham Light Infantry, rising to the rank of Major. After being demobilised he re-joined Hertfordshire Constabulary and retired in 1969 as a Chief Superintendent.
Read more George Halsey left school at 15 and joined the Merchant Navy sailing the world. In 1936 at the age of 22 he joined Hertfordshire Constabulary. In May 1943 he joined the Royal Naval Reserve and served on Minesweepers at a Lieutenant. In December 1945 he re-joined the Police. He was commended several times retiring in 1966 as a Detective Inspector after 30 years service.

Read more From 1943 he served in the RAF as a Flight Engineer on a Lancaster bomber, shot down in 1944 whilst returning from a mission he evaded the Germans for 7 months until he was liberated by advancing Allied soldiers. After the war he served in both the Metropolitan and Nottingham City Police before transferring to Hertfordshire.
