Summonses against cyclists

At Cheshunt Petty Sessions Albert Coney, of Flamstead End, was summoned under the Defence of the Realm Regulations, 1914, for riding a bicycle without a red rear light at Cheshunt on May 31st at 11.20 p.m.  Station Sergt. Feakes said that the police had considerable difficulty with cyclists.  Now that the street lamps were lowered motorists complained that they could not see cyclists if they did not show a red light.  Fined 2s. 6d. or 5 days.

James Burroughs, of West View, Turner’s Hill, Cheshunt, summoned for riding without either a head light, or a rear red light, was fined  2s. 6d. or 5 days for each offence.

John Rowley, of Queens Road, Waltham Cross, and Joseph Mumford, of Churchgate Road, Cheshunt, for similar offences on May 26, were also fined 2s. 6d. in each case or 5 days.
