At Hertford County Sessions William Potkins, of Gallows Hill, Hertford, was summoned for using bad language on May 22. He admitted the offence.
P.C. Reed said he was in the street at Hertford Heath, when he heard cries of ‘police’. He saw the defendant rush at his sister and hit her in the back. He used filthy language, and said he did not mind getting six months or even penal servitude for her. He got into the house where his sister and her young man were, and they had to seek refuge in another house.
The defendant’s sister was getting married on the Monday following, and the defendant had not been invited, and this upset him. Fined 10s., including costs.
