Triumph Twin motorcycles

Brian Homans

For over twenty years, Hertfordshire Police used different versions of the Triumph twin cylinder motorcycle, initially 500cc and later 650cc, for patrol dutues. I have acquired several photos shown here:
1. 1946 rigid frame model, GNK 352. Rider wearing a cap and goggles.
2. 1950 machine, LRO 774, ridden by PC Ron Petts. (Photo from his family)
3. 1959 model 533 HAR ridden by PC Derek Norman, who sent me the picture.
4. 1962 TR6 Trophy 504 WAR, with PC Ivan Judd, who sent me the photo.
5. 1967 Triumph 650 cc Saint, YJH 74F, ridden by me when I was a Traffic Sergeant at Stevenage. Despite me being a fresh faced youth in those days, that’s my son David on it. At the time of writing (2020) he is now 53!

  • Fantastic images, I’ve been looking for my fathers ex-Scotland Yard 1946 Triumph Speedtwin reg no KGC828 which he bought for £15 when he was 16, he is 80 now and seeing the first image, it’s exactly what his bike looked like but sadly not the one, but fantastic images.

  • I never knew this site existed, but I do have some photographs of a 500cc Triumph I was issued with in 1976. I wish I had purchased it when it was upgraded for a new Triumph tiger 750.
