Strength of the Police Force

Hertfordshire Mercury, 24th July 1915

Transcript

At the quarterly meeting of Herts. County Council the Standing Joint Committee reported that owing to enlistment the county force had been reduced from 350 to 288, and the duties of the police had been carried out by employment of Special Constables and curtailing the weekly rest day of the regular officers.  It was not thought possible to carry on with less than 285 men, and instructions had been given to keep up the establishment to that figure.
