Source – Bishop’s Stortford Petty Sessions, 27th March 1915
Following in the wake of the Act , a letter was tabled at the Bishop’s Stortford Petty Sessions from a Mr WE Jones of the Wesleyan Quarterly Meeting. In it concerns were expressed regarding the “great peril to National efficiency and well-being” occasioned by intoxicating drink coupled with the increased number of troops. It went on to recommend that measures be taken for “restriction and curtailment of hours”.
It was reported that all licensed premises were now required to suspend drinking at 10.00 p.m. not 11.00 p.m.
Note: Before the outbreak of War ,drinking on licensed premises was commonly permitted from 5.30 a.m. until half an hour past midnight.
