At Ware Petty Sessions, Pte T. Fletcher, of the Labour Battalion, Cambridge, was charged with being a deserter.  P.C. George Reed deposed to meeting the defendant on the Amwell Road at 2:30am and taking him into custody.

Pte Thomas Newton, of Ware, was also charged with being a deserter from Kempton Park since December 26th.

Police Sergeant Firth gave evidence of arrest, and Newton admitted the charge.  This was the 4th time that he had been a deserter.  Both men were remanded in custody to await an escort.
