PC Smith attended the Petty Sessions held before the Reverend F Vander-Meulen at the Corn Exchange Bishops Stortford in the case of Philip Jenkins who had absconded from the Bishops Stortford Union on the 11th January 1882. He then conferred with PS Parish and subsequently escorted Jenkins to Cambridge gaol.
