Transcript
At 9.10pm, I was on duty in South Street when I heard a smash. I proceeded in the direction and found that there had been a collision between to [two] traps. The horses were took out before I got there, and the traps were being unlocked. I had the distance measured in my presence from the curb [kerb] to the wheel of the trap which was marked and it measured 2 feet six inches, The trap itself from wheel to wheel measured 5 feet. The road at this point is 20½ feet across which left 13 feet for the other trap to pass. The trap which was marked belonged to Mr George Prior, Builder, New Street, Sawbridgeworth. The man in charge of the other trap’s name is Mr James Tweed, the Rose & Crown, Station Road, Bps Stortford. Mr James Fletcher, New Town Road, Bps Stortford stated that he would give evidence on Mr Prior’s behalf if called upon. Noone complained of being hurt.Police officer
