Very little sleep for 22 weeks

Hertfordshire Mercury, 23rd October 1915

Transcript

At Cheshunt Petty Sessions on Wednesday, Frederick Byatt, of Flamstead End, was summoned for not having proper control of a horse and cart at Cheshunt on September 24.  P.c. Smith proved finding the defendant asleep in the front of a van in High Street, Waltham Cross.  The reins were hanging down and dragging on the roadway.  Station-Sergt. Feakes said he knew the defendant had been working long hours this year and contractors were hard put to obtain labour.  The defendant said he had had very little sleep for the past 22 weeks, and it was no wonder he dropped off to sleep.   Fined 5s. or five days.
