Chief Constable Henry Daniell published General Order 13 of the 25th April 1901 which announced the following:

The Secretary of State has been pleased to approve of a new scale of pay from the 1st April 1901 vide Home Office letter no. A59745/5 of 17th April 1901.

Constables.

On Probation          £1/1/7

2nd Class                £1/3/11

1st Class                 £1/5/8

After 2 years          £1/6/10

After 5 years          £1/8/0

After 8 years          £1/9/2

Sergeants.

On Appointment     £1/10/4

After 2 years          £1/11/6

Inspectors.

The Superintendent appointed Deputy Chief Constable receives £20 extra per annum.

Merit Case.

The above carries 1/- per week extra pay to 10% of the Sergeants and Constables.

Rents.

Sergeants to pay the same rent as Constables viz: 3/- per week, from 18th April 1901.

A Constable on joining the Force will receive 21/7 per week until he has passed the examination qualifying him to be brought on the Roster for duty. He will then receive 23/11 per week for six months, or for such further period as may be necessary, until reported by his Superintendent as being fit for promotion to the first class when he will receive 25/8 per week.

After 2 years service in the Force, dating from the time of the Constable being brought on the Roster for duty, he will be promoted to 26/10 per week.

After a further period of 3 years he will receive 28/- per week and after a further period of 3 years he will receive 29/2 per week.

As this periodical increase is for good conduct and approved service only, the Chief Constable is empowered and reserves to himself the right to disallow the promotion of any Constable whom he thinks unworthy of promotion and to reduce to a lower grade or a lower rate of pay any Officer or man who misconducts himself.

The pay which each Sgt. And Constable is to receive from 18th April 1901 will be set forth on a Pay Sheet which will be sent out to the Superintendents of Divisions.

A separate Pay Sheet for the difference of pay between the 1st and 17th April 1901 under the new scale will be sent out to the Superintendents of Divisions in due course.
